Malamay, the pure

Alignment: Good
Domains: Lesser God, called the God of Sea and Rivers, but has also been known as a God of Healing
Symbol: The followers of Malamay have two symbols for their god; an anchor and a silver chalice encrusted with sapphires. The fishermen prefer the anchor, while the priests prefer the chalice.
Appearance: Legend has stated that, when Malamay appeared on the mortal plane, it was as a half-man, half-fish. While the upper portion of Malamays body was that of a young, blonde-haired, green-eyed high elf, from the waist down he appeared to be covered with beautiful blue fish scales and a long fish tail where his legs were meant to be.

History: Like his older brother, Basenbe, Malamay had very little time to make himself known to the mortals. The youngest son of Allanbay and Sorn, Malamay was a pleasant and goodnatured child, who was very attached to his mother, and spent as much time as he could with her. As he grew, Malamay learned that, like Sorn, he possessed the power of healing and, after spending some time with Canter, who was a good friend of his father's, Malamay learned that he also possessed some limited powers over the elements, especially those powers associated with water. He set his mind to eventually perfect his powers in that regard in the hopes of one day helping the mortals as his parents had.

To the great dismay of Malamay, he was never as close to his older brother as he would have liked. However, Malamay soon discovered that very few were able to get truly close to his brother, including Sorn and Allanbay. Basenbe was so very serious, and looked as if he was always carrying with him a great burden which he could share with no one else. When Malamay was very small, he used to try to follow his brother to the places he would often run off to, but Basenbe always took a different path, and Malamay would end up completely lost.

One day, Sorn came to her sons and told them that she felt it was time she took them to the mortal plane to see the land of the great elven people that were not only her people, but her sons' as well. Sorn was notably excited about this event, and Malamay shared his mother's sentiments. Allanbay proclaimed that, in honor of the occassion, he would create three gifts for them to take to the mortals below. In their excitement, the three of them failed to notice the line of deep concern that came over Basenbe's face. He politely excused himself and disappeared for several days while Allanbay, Malamay and Sorn made their preparations.

On the eve of their trip to the mortal plane, Basenbe came to Malamay and told him that he feared their mother would be greatly displeased with what they would find happening upon the mortal plane. Knowing that his brother had a fascinating ability to always be right about such things, Malamay asked his brother what he could do to help. Basenbe asked Malamay to be there for their mother, and to encourage her to act with caution. Malamay said he would do his best.

When Sorn and her sons went to the mortal plane, Malamay was not prepared for what he saw, nor was he prepared for the violent reaction of his mother. The great city of the elves, which was meant to be a city built in honor of his beloved parents, was a city overflowing with sin and all of the evils which accompanied such behavior. In a fit of rage, Sorn exclaimed she was going to destroy the city, as it was an even greater sin to allow such evil to continue to thrive under the guise of her name as well as Allanbay's. Malamay consoled his mother, and listened on as Basenbe told Sorn of the existence of a faithful priest and group of companions who still resided in the city. Malamay interjected and also advised Sorn that it would be a great wrong to destroy this priest as well as the tear of their father, which was located in the city's great temple. Together, the brother's convinced Sorn to give them enough time to find some good in all of this. In the end, Malamay saw to it that his father's tear would be safe in the great sea to the north.

To ensure the safety of this precious artifact, Malamay went to the only god who knew the mortal plane inside and out, for he was the one responsible for its current appearance...Daeder. Malamay consulted with Daeder and Daeder, thrilled that the young god had taken an interest in the terrain of the mortal lands, shared with him all of his knowledge about the seas and rivers. Malamay spent a great deal of time on the mortal plane, helping Daeder shape the land below the waters and creating new underwater mountain chains.

In addition to spending time with Daeder, Malamay spent a great deal of time among the mortals, instilling in them a love for the seas and an appreciation of what the water could provide. As a direct result of Malamay's teachings, coastal villages and towns began to spring up all across the land. In addition, Malamay taught the great sailors to respect the sea for just as the waters could provide life to their people, it could also turn cruel and take life away. Thus, it was quite common for sailors to have a Priest of Malamay aboard their ships when they would set out on a voyage.

Malamay's days of happiness were soon to end, for Crest had called a meeting of the Gods. Sorn had forbidden her sons to share in Crest's magic, and Malamay followed his mother's wishes without question. What Malamay did not expect was his father's decision not to abide by Sorn's wishes. Malamay's world came crashing around him as Crest took his mother away. While he stood by his father and brother in vowing to get Sorn back, Malamay secretly blamed his father for causing his mother to be taken away. As Malamay watched his brother and father grow closer as the years went by, Malamay grew apart from his father, and spent most of his time in his seas on the mortal plane, where he could think clearly about how he was going to free his mother and devise a plan to seek vengeance upon Crest.

When Daeder constructed the Tower of Salt and Sandstone on the mortal plane, Malamay had been in the heavens, and he was angered at being unable to return to his seas. However, while he may have been physically banned from the mortal plane, Malamay was able to devise another way to visit his waters...

Followers: The followers of Malamay are found in the peoples of the port towns and villages of the mortal plane. Since these places are known to be great venues of trade and shared learning, nearly all of the races are found among the populace. The sailors of these port towns and villages have a strong belief in their god, and look to him to provide safe passage for their voyages. Priests of Malamay are a standard part of a ship's crew, and are said to possess innate powers of healing granted to them by Malamay, enabling them to tend to situations from a mild bout of seasickness to a more serious occurrence such as a lost limb.

The Shroud had very little concern about the followers of Malamay, as no one of real consequence seems to emerge from these followers, and they tend to restrict themselves exclusively to the seas. So long as the fishermen continue to bring in food for the Shroud's army, the Shrould grants them the ability to continue in their worship of Malamay.

There is a rumor among the sailors who travel the vast seas about a spiraling force of wind will suddenly appear out of no where upon the surface of the water, even in otherwise calm waters. While no sailor has summoned the courage to approach this wind, some say that they are able to feel Malamays presence and here his voice in the soft breeze that reaches them.
