Valdor, the Warrior
Alignment: Neutral
Domains: Greater God, known as the God of War
Symbol: Sword of Valdor
Appearance: Unlike most of the gods who like a degree of consistency in their appearances on the mortal plane, Valdor has been known to appear in several different forms. Valdor has been seen as a middle-aged human male, an aging dwarf, a youthful elf, and there are even rumors that Valdor has, on occassion, appeared as an orc and even a gnome! Since Valdor appears in so many various forms, he is identified by the great sword he wields, the Sword of Valdor, which is rumored to have been made for him by Dwarven Smiths during the Second War of Fate, the same smiths who forged the famed Warren Blades.
History: Valdor is most content when others are at war, be they gods or mortals, for those are the times when he is given the opportunity to stand out among the Gods. The most skilled of the gods in the art of warfare, Valdor was often consulted by the other gods when it came to waging battles with one another. The only god who never consulted with Valdor was Phykrell, who considered himself to be above needing Valdor's counsel and, as a result, created an enemy in Valdor.
Crest relied on Valdor's expertise in creating a great army to guard his moon fortress. Like Broodblame, Valdor had little time or patience for Crest's magic, but Valdor found the magic useful when it came to enchanting weapons and other articles of warfare.
During the Second War of Fate, Valdor trained the Knights of Magilone how to fight and defeat Phykrell's army. With Daeder's blessing and encouragement, the Dwarves used their skills in forging weapons, skills they learned from Valdor himself, to forge great weapons known as Warren Blades for the Knights of Magilone, whom the Dwarves called the Army of Valdor. While the victory was great for the forces of good, to Valdor, it was sweet revenge on the arrogant Phykrell.
Before the gods disappeared from the mortal plane, Valdor was a common visitor among all of the races. He provided mortals with courage and confidence, educated them in the art of warfare as well as in how to forge great weapons and armor. Some races, like the dwarves, were better at learning these skills than others.
Since Valdor is a god who is neutral by nature, it did not bother him that he was educating races who may side against one another, or even with the god Phykrell. To Valdor, maintaining balance is key, and the best way to ensure such a balance is to wage war from time to time.
Followers: Valdor has followers scattered among all of the races on the mortal plane; however, he seems to become very popular in times of war. Valdor has his greatest followings among the Hill and Mountain Dwarves who are expressly grateful for all Valdor has taught them. Valdor is also popular among the Barbarian tribes who enjoy warring not just with one another, but with anyone else who may cross their path. There is a surprisingly strong sect of grey gnomes who attribute their armormaking skills to Valdor, and it is even rumored that one of their ancestors was a favorite of Valdor's, and that Valdor taught him things about armorcrafting which he shared with no other mortal, not even the dwarves.
